Winter 2023 has been under way for a few weeks now, though here at offpisteskiing.com HQ I had programmed a deliberately quiet start to the winter…
Early season we saw some good early snowfalls, giving some great powder skiing in the run up to Christmas:
In early January I had my regular week with John & Phil, this time based in the Haute Maurienne – one of my favourite stomping grounds due to the flexibility to use the different ski areas to play to the conditions.
Despite not having had much snow for 10 days or so we still managed to find some great conditions for a mix of coaching and adventure skiing.
Mid-January saw an epic deep and cold snowfall, though due to a camera malfunction I have very little to show for it!
In late January I was over in Chamonix for some days coaching groups from the Eagle Ski Club, with good conditions for working on tactics and techniques for dealing with variable snow and steeper terrain.
Inbetween all this I had also had a few good days out skiing with the family, and revisiting some old haunts out behind Courchevel, which were still holding reasonable cold snow as we moved into what turned out to be a 5 week drought in the main Vanoise area.
